Where to start

Chosen from this company's lowest answers, easiest first. A quick fix uses material the company already has; a translation fix is usually met by translating a Japanese document (our note says whether this company has one). Questions that need a budget or a board decision are left out. Suggestions drawn from the research, separate from the scores.

S7Progress against the previous plan, including misses, explained in English5/5

The English New Growth Strategy deck (14 May 2024) has a 'Review of Previous Medium-Term Management Plan' section (pp8-11, appendix pp38-42). It sets the Second MTP's net sales and operating-margin targets for FY2021-FY2025 against FY2023 actuals and the latest forecasts (FY2025 sales ¥220.0bn planned vs ¥200.0bn; margin 9.5% vs 7.0%). It bridges the FY2025 operating-profit shortfall by business (¥21.0bn planned vs ¥14.0bn: lithography -5.5, etc.) and explains the variances: the semiconductor market, customer concentration, EUV competition, and unprofitable businesses. The English plan page also narrates the review. The plan was superseded a year early, so the final year is compared with the forecast rather than an actual. Targets against actuals and forecasts, with the variances explained. Source document →

Ushio Report 2025 in English (pp22-23, 40-43) gives the holding rationale and the board's annual review policy (also on the governance page and in CG report Principle 1-4). It gives the book value of cross-shareholdings at ¥6.84bn (7.9% of net assets) at FY2023 and ¥4.70bn (5.3%) at FY2024, and the number of stocks falling from 26 to 11. The target is zero by the end of FY2030, with a schedule to sell about ¥35bn of securities in Phase I and over ¥15bn in Phase II. Progress was ¥16.1bn sold in FY2024. Re-checked 21 Oct 2026 under v1.1.1, which brings deemed holdings (shares in a retirement-benefit trust whose votes the company directs) into G7. The Japanese securities report for FY2025 shows a deemed holding of 1,615,000 Ricoh shares (¥2.1bn) in a retirement-benefit trust.
