Japan IR Index

A consistent way to examine English IR.

What the Index is for

Adding more documents does not necessarily help investors find the information they need. The Index helps companies identify gaps, find useful disclosure examples and set priorities ahead of their next results announcement or shareholder meeting.

Weights follow the current assessment rubric. Individual scores and sources are available on company pages.

How to read the scores

Questions are generally scored from 0 to 5, with weighted area scores producing a total out of 100. Scores organize disclosure findings; they do not measure investment merit or management quality.

Separate unreviewed items from unsuccessful searches

Where items remain unreviewed, the site shows a floor treating them as zero alongside a value adjusted for reviewed items. The latter is not a theoretical maximum assuming full marks for missing items. Read scores together with the review date and coverage.

Three steps to a practical improvement list

01

Find your company

Check the review date, item scores and sources against your current disclosures.

02

Explore useful examples

Examine how other companies provide financial downloads, Q&A or voting results.

03

Agree ownership and completion checks

Use the guide to prioritize work, from organizing existing materials to preparing the next release.

Before comparing companies

Covered companies are a selected research cohort, not a representative random sample of Japan’s market. Do not rank companies by totals alone when sector, size, review date, rubric or coverage differ. The directory is alphabetical by English name.

Capital-action research is separate

Execution and outcomes of selected buybacks, disposals and other capital decisions are tracked separately. They are not added to the 34-question disclosure score.
