Where to start
Chosen from this company's lowest answers, easiest first. A quick fix uses material the company already has; a translation fix is usually met by translating a Japanese document (our note says whether this company has one). Questions that need a budget or a board decision are left out. Suggestions drawn from the research, separate from the scores.

F1Quarterly and full-year results summaries (tanshin) published in English5/5
Summary of Consolidated Financial Results for the six months to 30 June 2026, presented 4 August 2026: 14 English pages against the Japanese 14, with the notes on segment information. Every quarter is in the English library. Source document →
F2English results summary is a full translation, not an excerpt5/5
Latest tanshin, H1 FY2026 (six months to 30 Jun 2026, presented 4 Aug 2026). The English 'Summary of Consolidated Financial Results' is 14 pages, the same as the Japanese 2026年12月期 第2四半期(中間期)決算短信 (14). Both have the same parts. The summary pages carry results, dividends, the forecast and other notes. I. Summary of Operating Performance has a narrative for each of the four segments plus Others, financial condition, cash flows, and the forecast explanation. II. has the interim balance sheet, income and comprehensive income statements, and cash flows. The notes cover going concern, tax accounting, the change in presentation, treasury shares, segment information and subsequent events (the Shin Nippon Machinery sale). III. is supplemental orders, sales and backlog by segment. Q1 (28 Apr 2026) and FY2025 (10 Feb 2026, 24 pp, including the statement of changes in equity) are also full translations. The whole tanshin, so 5. Source document →
F3Financial statements including notes available in English5/5
The latest-period English tanshin (H1 FY2026, 4 Aug 2026) has the full interim statements: balance sheet, income, comprehensive income and cash flows. Like the Japanese J-GAAP interim tanshin, it has no changes-in-equity statement. It also has the notes: tax-expense method, change in presentation (gain on sale of investment securities reclassified), significant change in equity (treasury shares), the segment note with its reconciliation, and subsequent events. The year-end English tanshin (FY2025, 10 Feb 2026, 24 pp) adds the statement of changes in equity. Full statements and notes for the latest period, so 5. Source document →
F4Annual securities report available in English in any form3/5
No securities report in English. The nearest is 'FY2024 Consolidated Financial Statements & Notes to the Consolidated Financial Statements' (47 pages, June 2025) with the independent auditor's report - financial statements only, none of the narrative parts, and for FY2024: no FY2025 edition has followed although the FY2025 yuho was filed in March 2026. Source document →
F5Segment revenue and profit disclosed in English, consistent definitions5/5
Every English tanshin has the segment note for the four reporting segments (Mechatronics, Industrial Machinery, Logistics & Construction, Energy & Lifeline) plus Others. It gives external and intersegment sales and segment profit for both periods, with a reconciliation. H1 FY2026: Mechatronics sales 149,861 / profit 13,608 (¥m). The note states how segments are defined (units reviewed by the Board for resource allocation) and lists each segment's main products. The deck repeats orders, sales and operating profit by segment, breaks them down by SBU (pp. 30-31), and flags the 1 Jul 2026 move of SHI Process Equipment from Energy & Lifeline to Logistics & Construction, showing figures before and after. Every period, with definitions stated and changes disclosed, so 5. Source document →
F6Multi-year financial data file (Excel or CSV) downloadable in English0/5
No downloadable data file in English. IR Library > Financial Information (Operating Results Highlights, Financial Position, Cash Flow Conditions, Financial Statements) shows HTML charts and an HTML table: balance sheet, P&L and cash flow for 3/22, 12/22-12/25. We searched these pages for xls/xlsx/csv/download links, and none are offered. The account, presentation and sustainability-data pages have none either; the Japanese financial-information page has no file. HTML tables don't count, so not found.
F7Guidance disclosed in English with the basis explained5/5
The H1 FY2026 English tanshin gives the full-year forecast (sales ¥1,120bn, OP ¥68bn, ordinary ¥62bn, net ¥35bn, EPS ¥294.45). It sets this against the February forecast with differences and explains the revision: revised FX assumptions and a better order environment in Mechatronics and Logistics & Construction. The assumed rates are $1 = ¥155 and €1 = ¥180. The English deck (38 pp) adds a market view ('order environment is improving... semiconductor equipment... full recovery has yet to take hold'). It also has the forecast by segment for orders, sales and OP (Feb vs Aug, with changes), an OP bridge by segment, and the FX and ROIC assumptions. FX, market view, segment forecasts and an explained revision, so 5. Source document →

S1Medium-term management plan in English with numerical targets5/5
The current plan is Medium-Term Management Plan 2026 (FY2024-2026). The English Management Plan page carries the targets: orders ¥1.2tn, sales ¥1.173tn, OP ¥80bn (6.8%), ROIC 7%, ¥190bn capex, ¥90bn R&D. It links the 25-page English 'Medium-Term Management Plan 2026' deck (14 Feb 2024; the Japanese deck is also 25 pp), segment plan decks, and the February 2025 target revision (FY2024 full-year deck pp. 20-40 and Integrated Report 2025 pp. 21-25), mirroring the Japanese page link for link. One slip: the English page text says '¥1.73 trillion in net sales' where the Japanese says 1兆1,730億円. The Aug 2026 English deck also previews the next plan (MTMP29): FY2029 targets OP ratio 10%, ROE 10%, ROIC 8%, and FY2035 15%/15%/15%. Complete and as full as the Japanese, so 5. Source document →
S2IR presentations published in English4/5
An English presentation for every quarter (Q2 FY2026, 38 pages) and, since Q1 FY2026, an English summary of each briefing's Q&A. But the four FY2025 Japanese 質疑応答 - including the full-year one from the 10 February 2026 briefing - have no English version (the English FY2025 tab carries the decks only). A deck every period, part of the Q&A the Japanese gets missing: 4 (was 5 on 12 Oct; re-checked 15 Oct 2026). Source document →
S3English equity-story or investment-highlights page5/5
There is no 'why invest' or investment-highlights page. 'For Investors' is a link hub (president's message, plan, history, results highlights, technology features). The investor-facing equity story is in the English Integrated Report 2026, Chapter 1 'Value Creation Story' (14 pp). It has the history of value creation with sales, OP, ROIC and market cap to FY2030 targets, and 'Highlights of Our Segments' (FY2025 sales and OP mix by segment). Products are framed by strengths (e.g. MRI cryocoolers with a global share above 90%), and the value-creation process lists capital inputs with figures. Re-checked 21 Oct 2026 under the rule as written: a section in an investor document counts the same as a page. The chapter quantifies strengths (cryocooler share above 90%), so 5. Source document →
S4Growth drivers identified and quantified in English5/5
The H1 FY2026 English deck section 'Direction of MTMP29' (pp. 19-29) names 'driver businesses': Drive Technologies, Advanced Technologies (cryocoolers, cryopumps, vacuum robots), a planned Cranes SBU, and semiconductor equipment. Each comes with quantified conditions and goals: No.1/No.2 share, OP ratio of 15%+ and sales of ¥100bn+ by 2035, and driver-business OP above 1.5x the current level under MTMP29. The crane plan quantifies capacity (jib cranes 2.0x, Goliath 1.5x, shipbuilding overhead cranes 3.3x by 2030) against a shipbuilding-demand index. The semiconductor slide charts the market in $bn (AI vs non-AI) with laser-annealing and ion-implanter outlooks. Named drivers with numbers attached, so 5. Source document →
S5Results-briefing transcripts or Q&A published in English3/5
From FY2026 the English library has a 'Q&A Session' summary for every briefing, matching the Japanese 決算説明会質疑応答. Q1 FY2026 is 5 pp both sides (English PDF created 8 May, Japanese 7 May). Q2 FY2026 is 8 pp both sides (English created 6 Aug, Japanese file 18 Aug). The FY2025 tab, however, has only the four decks. The Japanese Q&As for Q1, Q2, Q3 and the full year of FY2025 (the last one from the 10 Feb 2026 full-year briefing) have no English version. The only older English Q&A is FY2018. Every briefing is covered since April 2026, but two Japanese Q&As in the last twelve months (Q3 FY2025, Oct 2025; FY2025, Feb 2026) are Japanese-only. Set to 3 in review, 15 Oct 2026: two of the last four Japanese Q&As (twelve months) have no English, so coverage is occasional over the year, though complete since April 2026. Source document →
S6Integrated or annual report available in English5/5
Integrated Report 2026 in English, 78 pages like the Japanese 統合報告書2026, covering January-December 2025, published 7 September 2026 - the current edition. 5 (was 4 on 12 Oct, when the English page still offered the 2025 edition; re-checked 15 Oct 2026). Source document →
S7Progress against the previous plan, including misses, explained in English5/5
The English MTMP26 deck (14 Feb 2024), p. 2, sets the previous plan MTMP23's targets against actuals for FY2021-FY2023: orders, sales, OP margin, OP, ROIC, ROE, capex, R&D and FX (e.g. ROIC target 7.5%+ vs 7.3%/6.2%/7.0%). P. 3 explains the variances: OP margin near target thanks to price pass-through despite material costs; ROIC missed because of supply-chain disruption, inventory build-up and production-capacity investment. The H1 FY2026 deck p. 22 likewise sets MTMP26's estimated FY2026 results (OP ratio 6.1%, ROE 5.0%, ROIC 5.3%) against the plan and gives the reason ('insufficient investment in key investment areas and delayed responses to changes in the external environment'). Target against actual, explained, so 5. Source document →
G1Corporate governance report available in English5/5

G2Director biographies in English with tenure, expertise and independence5/5
The English Notice of the 130th AGM (64 pp, 20 Feb 2026) has a full profile for each of the nine director candidates, who make up the whole board. Each profile gives tenure as director (e.g. Susumu Takahashi 11 years 9 months), board attendance, a dated career summary, other positions, reasons for selection, and Outside/Independent designations with the TSE independent-officer statement. The English Integrated Report 2026 skills matrix (p. 63) repeats tenure, independence and committee seats for all directors and corporate auditors. Every director, all three elements, so 5. Source document →
G3Board skills matrix published in English5/5
A current skills matrix is in English in two places. The AGM notice (Feb 2026) has 'SKILLS MATRIX OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS' in the reference documents. The Integrated Report 2026 (published 7 Sep 2026), p. 63, has the 'Director and Corporate Auditor Skills Matrix' for all 14 officers after the March 2026 AGM. It covers seven attribute areas (corporate management, legal/compliance/risk, ESG, strategy/marketing, global, technology/IT/production, finance/accounting), with tenure and attendance. Current, so 5. Source document →
G4Executive remuneration structure and its performance linkage explained in English4/5
The English AGM notice business report (pp. 43-45) sets out the remuneration policy. Pay is basic, performance-linked and stock-based at about 60/30/10. The performance-linked part is split 50:50 between dividend-linked pay and divisional performance pay. The divisional part is ranked A-E on operating income, operating income ratio and ROIC, adjusted for safety and compliance (indicators revised from 1 Jan 2024). It gives the amounts by type: directors ¥425m in total, basic ¥278m, performance-linked ¥111m, stock-based ¥36m, with headcounts and outside directors shown separately. The Integrated Report 2026 p. 67 repeats the mix with ranges (dividend-linked 0-130%, performance 0-200%). Re-checked 21 Oct 2026 under v1.1.1, which needs the weight of each performance measure in every performance-linked element: the divisional part is ranked on operating income, operating margin and ROIC with no weights. So 4. Source document →
G5AGM notice in English with sufficient lead time to vote4/5
Notice of the 130th Ordinary General Meeting, dated 5 March 2026 for a meeting on 27 March - 22 days - 64 pages with the reference documents for all three proposals. No Japanese-only caveat on the voting route. Re-checked 23 Oct 2026 (G5 voting-site sweep, after the independent audit): the company's shareholder pages name Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank as share registrar, whose voting websites (www.web54.net and www.soukai-portal.net) are in Japanese only, with no English option, as for ESPEC (6859) and Nitto Boseki (3110). Every proposal in English, but a Japanese-only voting route, so 4. Source document →
G6Shareholder vote results disclosed in English2/5
Notice of Resolutions Passed at the 130th Ordinary General Meeting, in English, 27 March 2026: each item 'approved as proposed', with the names of those elected. No vote counts, no approval ratios. Source document →
G7Cross-shareholdings in English with reduction schedule and rationale3/5
The English Corporate Governance Report (last update 31 Mar 2026), Principle 1.4, gives the cross-shareholding policy. Holdings are kept only to sustain transactions and tie-ups; the board reviews each holding's significance, benefits against capital cost, and risks every year; holdings whose rationale is not confirmed are sold; and it sets voting standards. It reports the result: at the December 2025 board meeting, each of its 33 holdings was reviewed. No amount, no reduction target or schedule, and no progress figures in the CG report, AGM notice or Integrated Report 2026 (none mentions strategic shareholdings beyond this). The yuho, which would list the holdings, is not in English. Policy and a count, no target, so 3. Source document →
O1English IR section reachable within two clicks of the English homepage5/5
From the English homepage (www.shi.co.jp/english/index.html), IR is one click away. The always-visible footer has an 'Investor Relations' column whose heading links to /english/ir/index.html (seen on a full-page screenshot). A homepage content block (the president's message) also links straight to the IR top. The header hamburger menu ('menu' > Investor Relations) is a second route. One click, so 5. Source document →
O2English document links resolve to English documents5/5
We sampled 27 English document links across types and years, and every one opened as an English document. Tanshin: Q2 FY2026, Q1 FY2026, FY2025, FY2021 (28 pp). Statements and notes: FY2021 (46 pp). Decks: Q2 and Q1 FY2026, FY2025, Q3 FY2025, the MTMP26 plan, the MTMP26 Mechatronics segment plan, the 2023 Ion Technology business description, FY2020 supplemental, FY2018 Q&A summary. Q&A: Q2 and Q1 FY2026. Integrated Reports: 2026 (A4 and chapters 1, 2, 5, 6) and 2022. AGM: the 129th and 130th notices, 130th informational materials, 130th resolutions. O4English IR pages render without blank JavaScript failures5/5
We rendered the English IR top, IR Library, Consolidated Financial Report, Handout for Financial Briefing, Integrated Reports (new and back numbers), Financial Information and its four sub-pages, Management Plan, General Meeting, Interim Reports, For Investors, FAQ and the news list (2026 and 2025) in Chromium. All render their content. The year tabs open their lists, the Financial Information charts draw with axes and values, and the statements table fills in. No blank widgets, so 5. Source document →
O5Single page listing all English IR documents by date and type4/5
The IR Library is split by type across pages: Consolidated Financial Report (tanshin from FY2005 by year tab), Handout for Financial Briefing (decks and Q&A), Integrated Reports, and separate General Meeting and Interim Report pages. Entries are labelled by period, not by posting date. There is also one dated list: the News page that 'IR Topics > More' opens. Each item is dated and tagged 'IR' and covers tanshin, decks, AGM notices and resolutions, Integrated and Interim Reports, and every timely disclosure. But it mixes in product and other news and does not carry every type: the 31 Mar 2026 CG report and the Q&A summaries are not on it. One dated list missing types, so 4 (on the split library alone it would be 3). Source document →
O6English archive genuinely populated, not an unverifiable shell5/5
The archive is deep. Tanshin for every period from FY2005 to H1 FY2026. Decks from 2017 with supplemental data and segment-plan decks. Q&A summaries for FY2018 and FY2026. Integrated Reports from 2019 to 2026 (annual reports earlier). AGM notices and resolutions for several meetings. Interim reports from the 129th. News year pages back to 2000. Several years across types, so 5. Source document →
O7Named English IR contact published3/5
Named in the tanshin header - Atsushi Nakanishi, General Manager, Corporate Communications Dept. The IR FAQ page ends with 'Inquiry of Investor Relations', a phone number and a form - a dedicated route - but neither the IR top page nor the IR menu labels it, and the site-wide Contact page lists only product, R&D, supplier and other inquiries. Dedicated, not obvious. Source document →
R1Earnings materials published in English simultaneously with Japanese5/5
Japanese and English tanshin go to TDnet at the same minute (kabutan list): H1 FY2026 on 4 Aug 2026 at 14:00 for both, Q1 FY2026 on 28 Apr 2026 at 14:00, FY2025 on 10 Feb 2026 at 14:00. The English IR news lists the deck the same day as the Japanese in each case: 4 Aug 2026, 28 Apr 2026, 10 Feb 2026, 31 Oct 2025 and 5 Aug 2025. Only the videos are added later in both languages. One caveat: the English Q2 FY2026 deck PDF now online has a creation date of 6 Aug 2026, two days after its 4 Aug listing (the Japanese deck is 4 Aug). Other English decks show re-save dates (e.g. Q1 FY2026 created 15 Jun 2026, listed 28 Apr), so creation dates aren't reliable here and we used the listing dates. Tanshin and deck same day every period, so 5. Source document →
R2Median lag in days between Japanese and English statutory publication5/5
Lags, English against Japanese, from TDnet (kabutan) and the two IR news lists. H1 FY2026 tanshin: 4 Aug / 4 Aug = 0. Q1 FY2026 tanshin: 28 Apr / 28 Apr = 0. 130th AGM notice: both on the website 20 Feb 2026 and both on TDnet 24 Feb at 08:00 = 0. Corporate Governance Report: Japanese 31 Mar 2026 17:52, English 31 Mar 18:05 = 0. Yuho: the FY2025 Japanese report (Mar 2026) has no English. The nearest English document, 'Consolidated Financial Statements & Notes' (FY2024, 30 Jul 2025), is financial statements only, so it counts as more than 90. Sorted 0, 0, 0, 0, >90: the median is 0, so 5. Source document →
R3Timely disclosures published in English5/5
TDnet (kabutan), 15 Oct 2025 to 14 Oct 2026: every Japanese timely disclosure has an English counterpart at the same minute, and the same items are on the English IR news list that day. These are: results (31 Oct 2025, 10 Feb, 28 Apr, 4 Aug 2026); management changes (27 Nov 2025); parking business succession (26 Jan 2026); share transfer of Shin Nippon Machinery, buyback decision and voluntary retirement (10 Feb); AGM notice (24 Feb); change in major shareholders and its correction (2 and 11 Mar); CG report (31 Mar); monthly buyback status (1 Apr, 7 May, 1 Jun, 1 Jul, 3 Aug, 1 Sep, 1 Oct); voluntary-retirement results (22 Jun); subsidiary merger (29 Jun). The board-effectiveness evaluation (23 Mar) is also in both. Only two procedural TDnet filings have no English: the statutory post-merger document (6 Jan 2026) and the independent-officer notification (20 Feb 2026). Neither is among the forecast, dividend, buyback, M&A or management-change types. All same day, so 5. Source document →
R4English disclosure free of machine-translation accuracy disclaimers5/5
We rendered the English homepage, IR top, FAQ, General Meeting, Corporate Governance pages and Terms of Use, and searched the visible text. There is no machine- or AI-translation notice, no translation pop-up, and no website-translation clause in the Terms of Use. The documents carry only human-translation language, which belongs to R5: the AGM notice and informational materials say 'translated from the Japanese original for reference purpose only'; the tanshin says 'translated from the Japanese original as a guide to non-Japanese investors'. The deck, Q&A and Integrated Report carry none. So 5. Source document →
R5English version stated as authoritative, not subordinate to Japanese2/5
The AGM notice and the notice of resolutions say 'The Japanese original version is the sole official version'. The tanshin, the briefing presentation and the Corporate Governance Report carry no such statement. Disclaimed on some documents. Source document →
